About Brodie

Born in Blackpool, in the North West of England, Brodie was raised by his parents, Ashley and Keith Donougher. Brodie was a student at Layton Primary School, in Lancashire, where his brother and sisters had attended.

In 2010 Brodie started his gymnastics training when he was 7. Brodie competed with the squad team of Garstang School of Gymnastics, regionally and nationally. In his first competition, in The Isle of Man, Brodie won 5 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and won an additional gold medal for first place overall.

Brodie Donougher was first introduced to ballet when he was invited to join the PrimarySTEPS programme, which is run by The Royal Ballet School. Brodie went to a one-hour-a-week workshop where young children get to explore the fundamentals of body movement and music understanding, before enrolling for The Junior Associate programme, in Manchester.

After just a few months, Brodie was offered scholarships to attend Elmhurst Ballet School and The Royal Ballet School. But, Despite these offers, Brodie decided to forfeit his place at vocational ballet school, as he was also successful in auditioning for the West End show, Billy Elliot The Musical at age 10.

Following 6 months of intensive training in 2013, Brodie Donougher played the leading role of Billy for two years (144 performances) and was the final Billy Elliot to perform at the Victoria Palace Theatre in London, due to the show’s closure. During his time as Billy, Brodie has made an appearance on This Morning, danced in Saturday Night at the Palladium, and represented Billy for ‘Best West End Musical’ at the Olivier Awards in 2015. He has also had the honor of working with some of the biggest names in the musical industry, such as Steven Daldry CBE, Olly Murs, Madness, and Sir Elton John, CH CBE.

In 2016 Brodie was offered a place at Elmhurst Ballet School, but before he could fully dive into his studies, the Billy Elliot The Musical UK and Ireland Tour asked Brodie to return for a short contract, where he performed on The Late Late Show, IRE. After having joined Elmhurst, Brodie was taught various styles of studies, such as Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Scottish, Flamenco, Music, and Drama.

At the age of 14, Brodie was an actor in a Land Rover/Jaguar commercial for the release of the new 2016 car models and was cast in Steven Spielberg’s 2017 movie, Ready Player One.

In 2019, the BBC filmed Brodie for the documentary One Day That Changed My Life, following his life as a student, and his journey through injury. The story was released and broadcast on BBC ONE.

In addition to his vocational ballet school in Birmingham, Brodie was appointed Head Ambassador for Phoenix Boys Dance Company, where he trained, danced, and assisted the founder, concurrently. He has performed at the Can You Dance? Super Convention representing Freed of London dancewear and danced at The Lyceum Theatre, in Crewe.

During the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020, Brodie left Elmhurst and received a scholarship to attend the San Francisco Ballet School* in California. He moved to the United States when he turned 17, and after one year as a student, he was promoted to Trainee, under the direction of Patrick Armand. Brodie made his first U.S. performance in Idaho on the SFBS* Trainee Tour, performing Ballet and Contemporary works at the Ballet Sun Valley.

Shortly after his promotion, Brodie was given the opportunity to perform with the San Francisco Ballet company as a Russian Sweet in The Nutcracker, Seguadilla/Gypsy in Don Quixote, and a member of the Court, in Swan Lake.

In 2022, Brodie joined the Grand Rapids Ballet as their youngest artist. At the age of 19, he made his first professional debut. Brodie’s repertoire consists of The Nutcracker as The Nutcracker Doll, Spanish, Chinese, and Russian sweets, Romeo and Juliet as a Montague and Benvolio understudy, Jumpstart, Balanchine’s Who Cares?, Jump Cut, Two Tangos, and 3-time Tony Award winner Andy Blankenbuehler’s Remember Our Song. Whilst Brodie lived in Michigan, he was also invited to participate in the Opera Grand Rapids production of Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida.

At the end of his ballet contract in 2023, Brodie left the U.S. and moved to the UK to pursue his dream of returning to musical theatre. Following his arrival in the UK, Brodie danced at Pineapple Dance Studios and trained with the Artistic Director of Ballet De Monterrey at the Acosta Dance Centre in London.

In October 2023, Brodie was offered the Prince in The Nutquaker show at the world’s largest indoor theme park, Warner Bros World in Abu Dhabi, and performed as a swing in The Birmingham Repertory Theatre’s West End Show, The Snowman, at the Sadlers Wells Peacock Theatre.
